Mathilda Loisel was a pretty and a beautiful lady but she was obsessed with glamour. She was a centre of attraction in the ball. She had smooth hair but dainty fingers. She was desirous of name and fame. She nurtured a desire of getting married to a rich person but was married to a lowly clerk and felt a burden of poverty. However, her husband was loving and would provide her with the best he could. She had a comfortable house to live in but she but she was so discontented.
She would spend half of her say thinking about her overwhelming densities chat had virtually consumed her. She would do nothing but love in her own illusionary world where her actual life didn't even match her ideal life. She was so ambitious that she used to day dream.
She was very fond of jewellery and clothes, dreamt of a royal bungalow and wished to have soft-footed servants. She lost the diamond necklace and became a victim and lead an endlessly miserable life due to her own vain, proud and materialistic nature.
